March 2021 — Deans Danielle M. Conway, Amy Gaudion, and Bekah Saidman-Krauss, and Professor Dermot Groome will participate in Rutgers Law School’s April 2021 Race and the Law Review Symposium entitled Building an Anti-Racist Curriculum and Law School. Their remarks and multiple law review articles explain how Dickinson Law’s faculty is operationalizing its unanimous resolution to develop an antiracist curriculum. Full story

International Law in the Russian Legal System PROFESSOR BUTLER DELIVERS VIRTUAL BOOK TALK AT THE KENNAN INSTITUTE

March 2021 — Professor William E. Butler discussed his book, International Law in the Russian Legal System, during a virtual book talk on March 19 hosted by the George F. Kennan Institute. Professor Butler's book, commissioned and published by the Oxford University Press (OUP) in late fall 2020, is the second volume in the OUP’s newly established series on the Elements of International Law. Stanley Brand PROF. STANLEY BRAND TESTIFIES BEFORE HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE

March 2021 — Penn State Dickinson Law Distinguished Fellow in Law and Government Stanley M. Brand was one of four experts invited to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties on March 11 about the constitutional framework for Congress’ ability to uphold standards of member conduct. Raff Donelson PROFESSOR DONELSON SCHEDULED TO SPEAK ON OVERCRIMINALIZATION AT THE INSTITUTE FOR HUMANE STUDIES

March 2021 — Professor Raff Donelson has been invited to serve as a panelist at a July 2021 academic research seminar presented by the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University. The seminar is entitled Unnecessary Evils: Laws, Judging, and Policing in an Overcriminalized World. Donelson will present on policing incentives which affect the number of criminal laws and the judicial incentives created by the mass of criminal laws. Full story

Raff Donelson PROFESSOR DONELSON TO SPEAK ON FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN A LIBERAL DEMOCRACY

March 2021 — Professor Raff Donelson has agreed to present a paper at the Southeast Association of Law Schools Annual Conference, which will be held in July 2021. At this year’s conference, Donelson will present his paper as part of a panel entitled, “Philosophical Perspectives on Freedom of Speech in a Liberal Democracy.” Donelson’s presentation will be “Pragmatism, Truth, and Lies.” Full story

Michael A. Blasie PROF. BLASIE CHOSEN TO PRESENT AT EMPIRE STATE LEGAL WRITING CONFERENCE

March 2021 — Professor Michael Blasie was selected to present at the Empire State Legal Writing Conference. His presentation, titled From Nice to Necessary: The Laws, Policies, Experts, Empirical Studies, and Risks That Require Lawyers Write Differently, will explore the proliferation of legal writing statutes that require lawyers to write using plain language standards.
