Jotwell PROFESSOR TERRY AUTHORS JOTWELL REVIEW REGARDING LAWYER ADMISSIONS AND COMPETENCIES

August 2021 — Professor Laurel Terry, who is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law and Professor of Law Emerita, recently published a JOTWELL review entitled Rethinking Admissions Requirements: It’s A Global Phenomenon. Her review of Jordan Furlong’s 2020 Report entitled Lawyer Licensing and Competence in Alberta noted global interest in the issue of lawyer admissions and competency, as demonstrated by initiatives such as the NCBE’s NextGen Bar Exam of the Future and the UK’s forthcoming solicitor SQE “super-exam.” Full story

July 2021 — After 36 years at Penn State Dickinson Law, Professor Laurel S. Terry has retired.  Effective July 1, 2021, she is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law Emerita and Professor of Law Emerita. Full story

Laurel S. Terry PROFESSOR TERRY PARTICIPATES IN 2021 CAN-AM REGULATORS’ ROUNDTABLE

June 2021 — Professor Laurel S. Terry recently participated in a virtual gathering of U.S. and Canadian lawyer regulators. Although Professor Terry is not a legal regulator, she was invited to attend the 2021 Can-Am Roundtable because of her role in helping convene the first Can-Am Roundtable meeting. Full story

Laurel Terry PROFESSOR TERRY SPEAKS AT NCBE ANNUAL BAR ADMISSIONS CONFERENCE

April 2021 — Professor Laurel S. Terry recently participated in a panel session entitled “Measuring Competence: Global Developments and Comparisons” at the annual bar admission conference sponsored by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE). Professor Terry spoke about developments around the world, as well as Penn State Dickinson Law’s required 1L Contexts & Competencies course, which was inspired in part, by domestic and global discussions about the competencies that new lawyers need. Remote Border Crossing PROFESSOR TERRY SPEAKS ABOUT RULE 5.5, INTERNATIONAL TRADE, AND COVID AT ABA VIRTUAL SESSION

March 2021 — Professor Laurel S. Terry recently served as one of three panelists on an ABA webinar entitled Remote Border Crossing: Covid 19, Changes in Lawyer Mobility, and International Trade in Legal Services. National Organization of Bar Counsel PROFESSOR TERRY SPEAKS ABOUT PMBR AT NOBC MIDYEAR MEETING

February 2021 — Professor Laurel S. Terry, along with lawyer regulators from Colorado, Illinois, and Nebraska, recently spoke about the topic of proactive regulation or PMBR at the 2021 Midyear Meeting of the National Organization of Bar Counsel. The NOBC is the professional organization for individuals who “enforce the ethics rules that regulate the professional conduct of lawyers who practice law in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries around the world.” Full story

Laurel S. Terry PROFESSOR TERRY PUBLISHES NEW ARTICLE ON GLOBAL NETWORKS AMONG LAWYER REGULATION STAKEHOLDERS

November 2020 — Professor Laurel Terry recently published in the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics an article on the global networks among lawyer regulation stakeholders. Laurel S. Terry NEW EDITION AND MATERIALS FOR PROFESSOR TERRY’S PROREP CASEBOOK PUBLISHED

August 2020 — West Academic published teaching materials that Professor Laurel S. Terry and her co-authors prepared to support the Spring 2020 publication of the 4th edition of their Professional Responsibility casebook. The supplemental materials included a lengthy teacher’s manual, teaching slides, and Professor Responsibility questions for West’s Casebook Plus bank of questions. Full story
