Conference PROFESSOR EMERITA TERRY SPEAKS AT THE ABA’S ANNUAL LEGAL ETHICS CONFERENCE

June 2022 — Professor Emerita Laurel S. Terry recently spoke at the 47th ABA National Conference on Professional Responsibility sponsored by the ABA Center on Professional Responsibility. She moderated a panel entitled, Exploring New Models of Legal Services Regulation: What Makes Sense in Our Changing World?, and spoke at two additional events. Full story

Laurel S. Terry PROFESSOR EMERITA LAUREL S. TERRY RECEIVES THE 2022 RAMBO AWARD

March 2022 — Professor Laurel S. Terry, who is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law and Professor of Law Emerita, recently received the 2022 Hon. Sylvia H. Rambo Award during a ceremony held at Penn State Dickinson Law.  The Rambo Award is presented annually by the Penn State Dickinson Law Women’s Law Caucus to a woman in the legal profession who has had a distinguished career and who, by example, has made the professional success of other women more likely. Laurel S. Terry PROFESSOR EMERITA TERRY PROVIDES COMMENTS TO ABA ON PROPOSED AML RULE

February 2022 — Professor Laurel S. Terry, who is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law and Professor of Law Emerita, recently provided oral and written comments to the American Bar Association regarding a proposed new ethics rule.  Her comments addressed a Dec. 15, 2021 ABA Discussion Draft that proposed adding anti-money laundering [AML] due diligence language to the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct.  Full story

Gatekeeper Regulation PROFESSOR TERRY CONCLUDES HER SERVICE ON THE NOW-DISBANDED ABA AML GATEKEEPER TASK FORCE

August 30, 2021 — Professor Laurel S. Terry, who is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law and Professor of Law Emerita, recently concluded her service on the ABA Task Force on Gatekeeper Regulation and the Profession, which she originally joined in 2012. During its August 2021 Annual Meeting, the ABA disbanded the Task Force and thanked the members for their service. Full story

Jotwell PROFESSOR TERRY AUTHORS JOTWELL REVIEW REGARDING LAWYER ADMISSIONS AND COMPETENCIES

August 2021 — Professor Laurel Terry, who is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law and Professor of Law Emerita, recently published a JOTWELL review entitled Rethinking Admissions Requirements: It’s A Global Phenomenon. Her review of Jordan Furlong’s 2020 Report entitled Lawyer Licensing and Competence in Alberta noted global interest in the issue of lawyer admissions and competency, as demonstrated by initiatives such as the NCBE’s NextGen Bar Exam of the Future and the UK’s forthcoming solicitor SQE “super-exam.” Full story

July 2021 — After 36 years at Penn State Dickinson Law, Professor Laurel S. Terry has retired.  Effective July 1, 2021, she is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law Emerita and Professor of Law Emerita. Full story

Laurel S. Terry PROFESSOR TERRY PARTICIPATES IN 2021 CAN-AM REGULATORS’ ROUNDTABLE

June 2021 — Professor Laurel S. Terry recently participated in a virtual gathering of U.S. and Canadian lawyer regulators. Although Professor Terry is not a legal regulator, she was invited to attend the 2021 Can-Am Roundtable because of her role in helping convene the first Can-Am Roundtable meeting. Full story

Laurel Terry PROFESSOR TERRY SPEAKS AT NCBE ANNUAL BAR ADMISSIONS CONFERENCE

April 2021 — Professor Laurel S. Terry recently participated in a panel session entitled “Measuring Competence: Global Developments and Comparisons” at the annual bar admission conference sponsored by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE). Professor Terry spoke about developments around the world, as well as Penn State Dickinson Law’s required 1L Contexts & Competencies course, which was inspired in part, by domestic and global discussions about the competencies that new lawyers need. Remote Border Crossing PROFESSOR TERRY SPEAKS ABOUT RULE 5.5, INTERNATIONAL TRADE, AND COVID AT ABA VIRTUAL SESSION

March 2021 — Professor Laurel S. Terry recently served as one of three panelists on an ABA webinar entitled Remote Border Crossing: Covid 19, Changes in Lawyer Mobility, and International Trade in Legal Services.
