COVID-19 LAW AND MEDICAL STUDENTS JOIN FOR COVID-19 CO-LEARNING EXERCISE

April 30, 2020 — Students enrolled in Penn State Dickinson Law’s Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) Clinic focus on identifying and addressing the socio-legal causes of poor health in order to prevent negative legal, financial, and health consequences for their clients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, health disparities due to socioeconomic status have come into sharp focus.

April 2020 — The details are always in the fine print—and this lesson is being learned the hard way across Africa, challenging decarbonization efforts for the continent. Governments throughout Africa are pursuing renewable energy mandates, energy efficiency standards, and other decarbonization reforms, but they face implementation challenges under legacy agreements for thermal power that often have been in place for decades.

Class of 2020 OPERATION REALIZING THE DREAM LAUNCHED TO CELEBRATE DICKINSON LAW’S CLASS OF 2020

April 21, 2020 —The COVID-19 global health pandemic has forced institutions across the country to postpone in-person commencement ceremonies and other celebratory events recognizing the Class of 2020. While the need to postpone the in-person ceremony was disheartening, Dickinson Law’s administration, faculty, and staff seized the opportunity to creatively and compassionately plan celebrations and activities to recognize its graduates. In response, Operation Realizing the Dream was born.

April 6, 2020 — When people can’t leave their houses to attend an event, you bring the event to them. With residents across Pennsylvania sheltering in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, Penn State Dickinson Law’s Business Law Society is converting two upcoming entrepreneur pop-up clinics to virtual sessions, allowing people to participate from their homes. 
The pop-up clinics, which had been scheduled to take place at Penn State commonwealth campuses this month, include workshops designed to educate early-stage entrepreneurs about topics critical to launching, promoting, and sustaining new businesses.

Children's Advocacy Clinic Meeting CHILDREN’S ADVOCACY CLINIC STUDENTS CONTINUE ADVOCACY FOR FOSTER CHILDREN DURING PANDEMIC

April 1, 2020 — The COVID-19 outbreak has impacted everyone. For foster children in Pennsylvania, the effects have been especially profound. Children receiving mental health treatment can’t see their therapists. Reunification visits become more difficult to schedule. Children cannot transfer to new shelters. Foster parents suddenly teaching at home lack the educational resources children with special needs receive at school.

February 2020 — Danielle M. Conway, dean and Donald J. Farage Professor of Law, Penn State Dickinson Law, has been selected to the Lawyers of Color Power List by the Lawyers of Color Foundation—a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting diversity in the legal profession and advancing democracy and equality in marginalized communities. Pop-Up Clinic DICKINSON LAW STUDENTS HOST TRANSGENDER NAME CHANGE ASSISTANCE POP-UP CLINIC

February 13, 2020 — Penn State Dickinson Law students recently held the first Transgender Name Change Assistance Pop-up Clinic for members of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Perry and York counties at Lewis Katz Hall, Dickinson Law, Carlisle. Designed to work with the transgender community, the Clinic provided attendees guidance on the legal name change process. Dickinson Law students and local attorneys volunteered their services in the Clinic.

Medha Makhlouf DICKINSON LAW PROFESSOR NAMED ATLANTIC FELLOW FOR HEALTH EQUITY

February 2020 — Medha Makhlouf, assistant professor of law and founding director of the Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic at Dickinson Law, and assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at Penn State College of Medicine has been named to the Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity, a one-year, non-residential fellowship program that aims to create a global network of committed leaders working across societies and nations to promote health equity.

PILF Auction ANNUAL PUBLIC INTEREST LAW FUND AUCTION TO BENEFIT FELLOWSHIPS FOR DICKINSON LAW STUDENTS

February 7, 2020 — Dickinson Law’s Public Interest Law Fund (PILF) will host its annual auction on Thursday, March 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Comfort Suites Downtown Carlisle, 10 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. The annual auction — PILF’s primary fundraising event — raises funds to support the Degenstein Foundation Fellowship Program for Public Interest Law and the Cherie M. Millage Summer Fellowship Program to help fund public interest fellowships for Dickinson Law students.
