Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF CO-AUTHORS OP-ED ON VACCINE EQUITY FOR NONCITIZENS

January 2021 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf recently co-authored an op-ed in The Hill that advocates for the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccine to noncitizens. Professor Makhlouf’s co-authors were Representative Raúl M. Grijalva of Arizona and two of her cohort members in the Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity, Dr. Megan Srinivas and Professor Gilberto Lopez. Full story

Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF PRESENTS RESEARCH ON INTEGRATING SOCIOLEGAL SERVICES IN HEALTH CARE AT AALS ANNUAL MEETING

January 2021 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf recently presented her research on integrating sociolegal services in health care at two events during the AALS Annual Meeting. Professor Makhlouf highlighted different aspects of her research for the two programs, titled “Health Care Coverage Reform in the Shadow of COVID-19” and “Politics, Pandemic, and the Future of Civil Rights and Poverty Law.” Full story

Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF TO SPEAK ABOUT “HEALTH CARE SANCTUARIES” AT THE LOYOLA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW BEAZLEY SYMPOSIUM ON HEALTH CARE LAW AND POLICY

October 2020 — Professor Medha Makhlouf presented her current research on legislative, policy, and institutional responses to the problem of immigrant avoidance of healthcare institutions. The Symposium, titled “Viewing Health Justice Through the Lens of Public Health Crises,” explores the impact that public health crises have on vulnerable populations with a focus on the social determinants of health that made these populations vulnerable prior to such crises. Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF SELECTED TO PRESENT AT THE 2021 AALS ANNUAL MEETING BY THE SECTION ON LAW, MEDICINE, AND HEALTH CARE

October 2020 — Professor Medha Makhlouf was selected by the AALS Section on Law, Medicine, and Health Care to present her latest research on integrating sociolegal needs screening with health care. The panel, titled “Health Care Coverage Reform in the Shadow of COVID-19,” is the Section’s main panel presentation at the Annual Meeting and explores how the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted stressors in our health care system. Medha Makhlouf ADDRESSING RACISM THROUGH MEDICAL-LEGAL PARTNERSHIPS

September 2020 — Founding Director of Dickinson Law’s Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) Clinic and Assistant Professor Medha Makhlouf shared her early ideas about how Critical Race Theory can help to inform the operation of Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic’s seeking to address racism as a social determinant of health in her first blog post, "Addressing Racism through Medical-Legal Partnerships," which was recently published in a digital symposium called “Understanding the Role of Race and Health” hosted by Harvard Law's Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics. Learn more

Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF PARTICIPATES IN THE CLINICAL LAW REVIEW WRITERS’ WORKSHOP AT NYU LAW

September 2020 — Every fall, more than one hundred clinical law school faculty gather at NYU Law School to attend the Clinical Law Review Writers’ Workshop. This year, the workshop was held virtually, but the format remained the same: Attendees meet in small groups and intensively workshop each members’ draft throughout the day. Full story

American Journal of Law & Medicine PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF’S ARTICLE ON DNA SURVEILLANCE OF IMMIGRANTS FEATURED IN HEALTHLAWPROF BLOG

September 2020 — Professor Makhlouf’s article, The Ethics of DNA Testing at the Border, was recently published in the American Journal of Law & Medicine, the country’s leading health law journal, and featured in HealthLawProf Blog. The articles provides an overview of how DNA testing has been used in the U.S. immigration context and traces the expansion of DNA surveillance over the past two years. Full story
