April 2022 — Professor Medha D. Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF SELECTED TO JOIN THE ADVISORY BOARD FOR THE ATLANTIC FELLOWS FOR HEALTH EQUITY PROGRAM

March 2022 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf was selected to join the Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity (AFHE) Senior Fellows Advisory Board. The Board plays an important role in developing and informing AFHE program initiatives and building a vibrant community of Senior Fellows, all of whom have completed the fellowship program. Professor Makhlouf completed the program in 2020. Full story

Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF TO PRESENT AT SYMPOSIUM ON HEALTH LAW AND ANTI-RACISM

February 2022 — On March 30, 2022, Professor Medha Makhlouf will present her paper on the role of medical-legal partnerships (MLPs) in advancing racial justice at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. Research presented at the symposium, titled “Health Law and Anti-Racism: Reckoning and Response,” will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics in spring 2022. January 2022 — The Association of American Law Schools (AALS) held their 2022 Annual Meeting on Freedom, Equality, and the Common Good from January 5-9. This virtual event provided participants with an opportunity to discuss how our legal system should deal with the realities of a post-pandemic world and explored how crafting a common understanding of what freedom means in a democratic society can be very complicated, particularly in the face of a crisis. Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF ELECTED SECRETARY OF THE AALS SECTION ON LAW, MEDICINE, AND HEALTH CARE

January 2022 — At the Annual Meeting of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), it was announced that Professor Medha D. Makhlouf had won the election for Secretary of the Association’s Section on Law, Medicine, and Health Care. Full story

Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF SELECTED AS AAMC CHARGE VIRTUAL COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR

December 2021 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf was recently selected as one of three inaugural Virtual Community Ambassadors for the Collaborative for Health Equity: Act, Research, Generate Evidence (CHARGE) of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). In this role, Professor Makhlouf will be responsible for co-facilitating discussions, events, and collaborations in the AAMC CHARGE virtual community. Full story

Presentation PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF PRESENTS ON IMMIGRANT ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE AT PENN LAW

December 2021 — Professor Medha Makhlouf gave a talk on the law and policy of immigrant access to health care, at the invitation of a coalition of student organizations at the University of Pennsylvania Carey School of Law. The presentation focused on the impact of immigration status on health, as well as the laws, policies, and systemic structures that shape immigrant access to health care. Full story

Medha Makhlouf PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF COAUTHORS ARTICLE PROPOSING A HEALTH JUSTICE AGENDA FOR LAW SCHOOL CLINICS

November 2021 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf recently co-authored an article, “Setting the Health Justice Agenda: Addressing Health Inequity and Injustice in the Post-Pandemic Clinic,” providing law school clinics of all kinds with six maxims to advance health justice. The article is published in the symposium issue of the Clinical Law Review, titled “2020 Hindsight: The Pandemic, Protests, and Political Perils.” Full story

JOTWELLS PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF AUTHORS JOTWELL REVIEW REGARDING POLICE SURVEILLANCE OF HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOMS

November 2021 — Medha D. Makhlouf recently published a JOTWELL review entitled “Compounding Vulnerability: Hospital Emergency Rooms as Sites of Race- and Class-Based Police Surveillance.” Her review of Ji Seon Song’s article, “Policing the Emergency Room,” published recently in the Harvard Law Review, notes the article’s contribution to the literature on policing and inequitable access to health care. September 2021 — The American Society for Law, Medicine & Ethics and the Network for Public Health Law hosted the virtual Public Health Law Conference from September 20-23, 2021. Professor Medha D. Makhlouf presented on a panel devoted to Immigration Law and Public Health. Full story
