PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF TO ATTEND CONVENING ON DISPLACEMENT AND HEALTH IN GREECE September 2022 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf was selected to attend the upcoming Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity (AFHE) Convening on Displacement & Health, from September 19-23, 2022 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The Convening will host twenty Senior Fellows whose work focuses on issues of refugee and immigrant health, mental health, and trauma-informed care. Full story |

PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF CO-AUTHORS ARTICLE FRAMING IMMIGRATION REFORMS AS HEALTH POLICY September 2022 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf recently co-authored an article, “Immigration Reforms as Health Policy,” in the Saint Louis University Journal of Health Law & Policy. The article was published in a symposium issue titled “Health Care After the 2020 Election: The Path: Forward,” which focuses on the most important post-election opportunities to advance health access and health equity. Professor Makhlouf’s co-author is Patrick Glen, Senior Litigation Counsel with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Immigration Litigation and an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center. PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF PRESENTS AT ANNUAL HEALTH LAW PROFESSORS CONFERENCE June 2022 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf traveled to the 45th Annual Health Law Professors Conference, which took place from June 1-3, 2022, at the Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law of Arizona State University. There, she attended her first meeting as a Board Member of the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics (ASLME); facilitated discussion at the Jay Healey Teaching Session; and participated in a panel discussion focused on public health scholarship and curriculum. PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF LEADS WORKSHOP AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON CLINICAL LEGAL EDUCATION May 2022 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf facilitated a workshop she organized at the annual Conference on Clinical Legal Education titled “Lessons for Clinicians from The Art of Gathering and Beyond.” The workshop described and modeled strategies for enhancing clinical gatherings of all kinds, including supervision and evaluation sessions, staff meetings, celebrations, and virtual and in-person convenings. It was inspired by the book, The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why it Matters, by Priya Parker. Full story |

PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF SELECTED TO JOIN THE ADVISORY BOARD FOR THE ATLANTIC FELLOWS FOR HEALTH EQUITY PROGRAM March 2022 — Professor Medha D. Makhlouf was selected to join the Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity (AFHE) Senior Fellows Advisory Board. The Board plays an important role in developing and informing AFHE program initiatives and building a vibrant community of Senior Fellows, all of whom have completed the fellowship program. PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF TO PRESENT AT SYMPOSIUM ON HEALTH LAW AND ANTI-RACISM February 2022 — On March 30, 2022, Professor Medha Makhlouf will present her paper on the role of medical-legal partnerships (MLPs) in advancing racial justice at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. Research presented at the symposium, titled “Health Law and Anti-Racism: Reckoning and Response,” will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics in spring 2022. DICKINSON LAW SCHOLARS PRESENT AT 2022 AALS ANNUAL MEETING January 2022 — The Association of American Law Schools (AALS) held their 2022 Annual Meeting on Freedom, Equality, and the Common Good from January 5-9. This virtual event provided participants with an opportunity to discuss how our legal system should deal with the realities of a post-pandemic world and explored how crafting a common understanding of what freedom means in a democratic society can be very complicated, particularly in the face of a crisis.
