Ordering Textbooks

You may purchase or rent textbooks from a vendor of your choice (e.g., the Penn State Bookstore, Amazon, Half.com, eBay, etc.) or acquire them from a current 2L or 3L. Required textbooks can be found by searching for Find Course Materials on the Penn State Bookstore. Detailed instructions on how to search for your materials can be found here. We are providing you with this information now so that you can plan ahead, shop around, and find the option that works best for your budget and learning style. If you plan to charge your books to your bursar's account, you must purchase your textbooks from the Penn State Bookstore. You may, however, find less expensive retail options elsewhere.

Textbooks can be ordered online and shipped to your home address by UPS. Tuesday, August 1 is the deadline to order books to ensure arrival prior to the start of classes.

Information on books required for all Law School courses will be available online either from LionPATH or on the Bookstore’s website. The information includes: author(s) or editor; title; ISBN; publisher; year of publication and edition; whether the title is required or recommended; and cost if new, used, or rented. This information is provided so that you can purchase the texts from alternate sources if desired. If purchasing ebooks from westacademic.com, please use the discount code WAPNST to save 15 percent.

If you are anticipating a financial aid refund (typically from student loans) for your living expenses and intend to use the refund to pay for books, you may charge up to $800 in required textbooks at the Penn State Bookstore. ONLY required textbooks may be charged to the student account — supplies, electronic items, and other retail goods offered through the University Bookstore cannot be charged to your account. The amount you charge to your financial aid will become a balance due on your Bursar account.

Please note that charges from the University Bookstore are sometimes posted to student accounts after fall financial aid refunds are sent to students. In the event your financial aid credit is refunded to you prior to the Bookstore charge being placed on your Bursar account, you will be responsible to pay the balance billed using the financial aid refund you received. We urge you to check your Bursar account screen in LionPATH regularly, even after you receive your fall refund. If you do not see a Bookstore charge on your Bursar screen when your financial aid refund arrives, you should set aside a portion of your refund so you will be prepared to pay the charge when it is posted to your account. Prompt payment of the Bookstore charge will help you avoid unnecessary late fees. Payment can be made on LionPATH or via check in room 022B. The deadline to charge books to your Bursar account is August 27.
