PROFESSOR EMERITA TERRY PUBLISHES TWO ARTICLES ABOUT INTERNATIONAL LEGAL SERVICES September 2024 — Professor Emerita Laurel S. Terry is the author of two articles published in the Summer 2024 issue of The Bar Examiner. This magazine, which is sent to state supreme court justices, admissions officials, legal educators, and others, is published by the National Conference of Bar Examiners and “provides comprehensive, authoritative information on current issues.” Full story |

PROFESSOR EMERITA TERRY UPDATES AND ADDS A “RESEARCH AREAS” PAGE TO HER PERSONAL WEBPAGE May 2024 — Professor Emerita Laurel Terry recently completed updating her personal webpage. In addition to the “Publications” and “Presentation Slides” menu items, Professor Terry’s updated personal webpage now includes a link to a webpage entitled “Research Areas.” This Research Areas webpage identifies various topics on which Professor Terry has worked and consolidates for each topic, her relevant law review articles, presentation slides, essays, and e-resources. PROFESSOR EMERITA LAUREL TERRY ATTENDS PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY CONFERENCE May 2024 — Professor Emerita Laurel Terry recently attended the “Workshop on Professional Identity Formation in the Professional Responsibility Course” held at St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis. Although “Professional Identity” has been an important topic for many years, it is receiving more attention lately because of changes to ABA Standard 303(b)(3). This section of the ABA Standards for Approval of Law Schools was added in February 2022 and requires ABA-accredited law schools to “provide substantial opportunities to students for…the development of a professional identity.” Full story |

PROFESSOR EMERITA LAUREL TERRY CONCLUDES HER SERVICE AS IAOLE WEBMASTER August 2023 — Professor Emerita Laurel Terry recently concluded over a decade of service as webmaster for the International Association of Legal Ethics, which is known as IAOLE. IAOLE is the nonprofit organization that sponsors the biennial ILEC international legal ethics conferences. IAOLE’s mission includes promoting “teaching, research, vocational training programs, and policy initiatives concerning legal ethics.” Full story |

PROFESSOR EMERITA LAUREL TERRY CO-AUTHORS NEW IBA INTERNATIONAL TRADE GUIDE July 2023 — As the International Bar Association recently announced in a press release, the IBA has published an updated edition of the IBA Guide to International Trade Agreements for IBA Member Bars (IBA GATS Handbook). Professor Emerita Laurel Terry coauthored this IBA Guide with Alison Hook and Jonathan Goldsmith. The 2023 Guide replaces the 2003 GATS Handbook and 2013 Revised GATS Handbook, both of which Prof. Terry had written for the IBA. Full story |

PROFESSOR EMERITA LAUREL TERRY ATTENDS THE ALI’S 100TH ANNIVERSARY MEETING May 2023 — Professor Emerita Laurel S. Terry attended the American Law Institute’s May 2023 Annual Meeting, which was held in Washington, D.C. In addition to reviewing pending Restatement of the Law projects, the meeting celebrated the ALI’s 100th Anniversary. Full story |

PROFESSOR EMERITA LAUREL TERRY HONORS HER RULE OF LAW ROOTS May 2023 — Professor Emerita Laurel S. Terry recently had the opportunity to honor her “rule of law” roots in Washington, D.C. when her grandfather, who died in 1929, was belatedly honored. Professor Terry and her sisters were invited to attend a candlelight vigil on the National Mall where her grandfather’s name was read out. Full story |

PROFESSOR EMERITA TERRY PUBLISHES ARTICLE ON ABA “SUMMITS” March 2023 — Professor Emerita Laurel S. Terry’s article entitled The Role of the ABA’s “Summits” in Facilitating Global Networks and International Cross-Border Legal Practice recently was published in a Symposium honoring Professor Bob Lutz. Her fifty-page article documented a decade of international “summits” sponsored by the ABA and explained their significance in helping establish global legal profession networks. Full story |

PROFESSOR EMERITA TERRY SUBMITS COMMENTS ON THE ABA’S THIRD CLIENT DUE DILIGENCE DISCUSSION DRAFT February 2023 — Professor Laurel S. Terry, who is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law and Professor of Law Emerita, recently provided a third set of comments to the American Bar Association regarding its efforts to develop an explicit client due diligence ethics rule to combat money laundering. Professor Terry’s comments addressed the January 23, 2023 Third Discussion Draft of proposed revisions to the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. Full story |
