PROFESSOR WILLIAMS MAKES A VIRTUAL VISIT TO PENN STATE HEALTH TO COMMEMORATE JUNETEENTH

Sarah J. WilliamsJune 2023 — Professor Sarah Williams participated in a hybrid celebration of Juneteenth, hosted by Penn State Health’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on June 19, 2023. She was joined by Dr. Joyce Davis, from the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, in reflecting on the meaning and significance of the holiday. Professor Williams participated in an engaging discussion with Dr. Davis and attendees from Penn State Health and Penn State Dickinson Law. Topics discussed ranged from the racial wealth gap to reparations. The event was a sincere celebration of that day in 1865 when the Emancipation Proclamation, issued in 1863 and ending slavery in Confederate states, was enforced by military action in Galveston Bay, Texas.
