PROFESSOR TITICHIA JACKSON ACCEPTS OFFER FROM CAPITAL LAW TO PUBLISH ARTICLE

Titichia JacksonSeptember 2024 — Professor Titichia Jackson has accepted an offer from Capital Law to publish her recent article, “Embracing a New Approach to Academic Success: How the Adoption of a Growth Mindset Can Enhance Legal Education.” Her article will be printed in the spring of 2025.

Professor Jackson’s article expands on the research of psychologist Carol Dweck, and addresses how the adoption of growth mindset philosophy in legal education can better support academic growth amongst law students. The structure and administration of legal education operates within fixed mindsets deeply rooted in tradition. Legal pedagoy and academic advising must be modified in a way that is responsive to the needs of students but also in a manner that teaches accountability. Professor Jackson’s article suggests fixed mindset practices are dated and inhibits the development of students and the overall law school experience. Her article encourages legal educators to abandon fixed practices used in pedagogy and advising. Under her proposal, educators adopting a growth mindset are empowered to self-assess teaching and advising methods, incorporate amendable teaching methods, and utilize formative assessments and feedback consistently to better improve instruction.

Professor Titichia Jackson brings both legal practice experience and the practice of applying cognitive psychology in the classroom to her teaching. Professor Jackson teaches the Fundamental Skills for the Bar Exam course and the Dickinson Law’s summer supplemental bar preparation program. Professor Jackson provides individual academic success counseling to students.
