PROFESSOR STEVE ROSS DISCUSSES WORK WITH NEW ZEALAND SUPREME COURT JUSTICE
March 2025 — Professor Steve Ross is away from campus this semester on research leave in Australia and New Zealand. Although his principal work lies in extensive interviews with sports executives and lawyers concerning governance principles for sports leagues and federations and work on formalist rhetoric in Australian constitutional law, his ongoing interest in statutory interpretation led him to contact Justice Susan Glazebrook of the New Zealand Supreme Court, who had recently written an article on the topic. Justice Glazebrook invited Steve to the court, where he was honored to discuss his views on statutory interpretation, his experience as a clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and general thoughts on American legal development, before a reception that included all justices of the Court and most of their law clerks.

Stephen F. Ross is Lewis H. Vovakis Distinguished Faculty Scholar; Professor of Law; and Executive Director, Penn State Center for the Study of Sports in Society. Professor Ross teaches and writes in the disparate areas of Sports Law, Comparative Constitutional Law, and Statutory Interpretation.
