PROFESSOR STEPHEN F. ROSS PUBLISHES ARTICLE IN LABORAL OPEN ACCESS REVISTA
July 2025—Professor of Law Stephen F. Ross, the Lewis H. Vovakis Distinguished Faculty Scholar, recently published a multi-disciplinary article in a Spanish law review. "Fútbol Profesional, Derecho De La Competencia Y 'Fair Play'" appears in the Laboral Open Access Revista, a publication of the Faculty of Law of the University Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain.
It builds upon a keynote address Ross delivered to a conference in Lima, Peru, asking whether competition (antitrust) law is compatible with the concept of “fair play” in sport. Ross says yes, but notes that “fair play” has no clear definition, and he borrows from the philosophies of Immanuel Kant, John Locke, and John Rawls in crafting alternative ways to look at sport.
Ross has previously worked with this Spanish university and is currently collaborating on a law review article with one of its faculty members, Sergio Gonzalez Garcia, who has come to Penn State as a visiting scholar on several occasions.
Stephen F. Ross is Lewis H. Vovakis Distinguished Faculty Scholar; Professor of Law; and Executive Director, Penn State Center for the Study of Sports in Society. Professor Ross teaches and writes in the disparate areas of Sports Law, Comparative Constitutional Law, and Statutory Interpretation.
