PROFESSOR SHAAKIRRAH R. SANDERS PRESENTS VIA ZOOM TO U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY
January 2025 — Professor Shaakirrah R. Sanders gave remarks via Zoom to the United States Environmental Protection Agency in commemoration of MLK Day. The January 16 presentation was entitled “Pedagogy of the U.S. Constitution: MLK, Civil Rights, and Equal Protection of the Law.
This presentation provided an overview of race in U.S. constitutional text and U.S. Supreme Court cases prior to and after the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. This presentation also considered how race intersects with and relates to the EPA’s mission to protect health and the environment. Over 1500 EPA employees attended on Zoom. Shaakirrah R. Sanders serves as Associate Dean for Antiracism and Critical Pedagogy, as Professor of Law, and as the Lewis H. Vovakis Distinguished Faculty Scholar. Prior to joining Penn State Dickinson Law as visiting professor of law in 2022, Professor Sanders was the first African-American descendant of slaves to achieve the rank of full professor at the University of Idaho and its College of Law. She teaches Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure, and the First Amendment.
