PROFESSOR RONNIE R. GIPSON JR. TO PRESENT AT 2025 LAW AND DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
June 2025 — Associate Professor of Law Ronnie R. Gipson Jr. has accepted an invitation to present his paper, “Opportunity Lost,” at the upcoming 2025 Law and Development Conference scheduled for December 5-6 in Honolulu, Hawai’i. The conference is being co-hosted by The Law and Development Institute and the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, William S. Richardson School of Law.
Professor Gipson noted that “receiving an invitation to participate in this conference is a huge career milestone in the area of international economic policy and trade law.” The Law and Development Institute at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa is recognized as a prestigious institution worldwide known for its excellence in International and Comparative law.
The purpose of the upcoming conference is to continue to demonstrate how law has a significant impact on economic development, which in turn enhances growth, industrial competitiveness, and sustainability. There is no consensus on the optimal set of laws and legal institutions to promote economic development and channel it toward positive impacts. In particular, there is a range of views on whether government regulations hinder or facilitate development, and what types of interventions are likely to be effective. The conference will explore how both international and domestic legal frameworks contribute to development, with a particular emphasis on sustainability concerns.
Ronnie R. Gipson Jr. is a Visiting Associate Professor of Law at Penn State Dickinson Law. He earned his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law, and he holds a B.A. from Texas A & M University in Modern Languages (French). Professor Gipson’s scholarship sits at the intersection of aviation law and international economic policy and trade law. Professor Gipson’s current projects explore topical issues making headline news globally.
