PROFESSOR MAKHLOUF PARTICIPATES IN THE CLINICAL LAW REVIEW WRITERS’ WORKSHOP AT NYU LAW

Medha Makhlouf

September 2020 — Every fall, more than one hundred clinical law school faculty gather at NYU Law School to attend the Clinical Law Review Writers’ Workshop. This year, the workshop was held virtually, but the format remained the same: Attendees meet in small groups and intensively workshop each members’ draft throughout the day. Professor Makhlouf workshopped a paper titled “Health Care Sanctuaries,” which proposes potential solutions to the problem of noncitizens delaying or avoiding medical treatment based on a fear of immigration consequences. Professor Makhlouf was placed in a group of immigration scholars and appreciated the opportunity to workshop her article with readers whose expertise lies outside of health law. She commented, “The quality of the virtual workshop was just as great as it’s always been. Everyone had read all the papers, the discussion flowed freely, and critiques were—without exception—constructive. I’m grateful for this wonderfully supportive community.”
