PROFESSOR GERKE SPEAKS AT INDIANA ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WEEK

Sara GerkeAugust 2021 — The Indiana Artificial Intelligence Week, held from August 30 through September 3, 2021, was hosted by Indiana University, Regenstrief Institute, Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering, and IUPUI Institute of Integrative AI. As one of the speakers of the Legal/Ethics Panel, Professor Sara Gerke talked about the liability challenges raised by AI in health care. In particular, she discussed when physicians will likely be held liable under current tort law when using AI. She also discussed what potential jurors can tell us about liability for health AI. 


Professor Sara Gerke is an Assistant Professor of Law at Penn State Dickinson Law. Her research focuses on the ethical and legal challenges of artificial intelligence and big data for health care and health law in the United States and Europe. Before joining Penn State Dickinson Law, Professor Gerke served as a Research Fellow in Medicine, Artificial Intelligence, and Law at the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School for the Project on Precision Medicine, Artificial Intelligence, and the Law (PMAIL).
