PROFESSOR BUTLER IS HONORARY PRESIDENT OF MOZOLIN READINGS

William E. ButlerJanuary 2021 — Professor William E. Butler, who serves as Honorary President of the Mozolin Readings, recently opened its 2020 annual proceedings with an address on artificial intelligence and the law of the sea. These proceedings are held annually at the Moscow Kutafin State Legal Academy.

As Honorary President, Professor Butler customarily opens these proceedings; the 2020 proceedings were held on 4-5 December 2020. The Readings were established in honor of Professor Viktor Pavlovich Mozolin (1925-2015), a leading Russian civilist and specialist in American law. Mozolin collaborated on joint comparative works on contract and property with the late Allan Farnsworth at Columbia University. Professor Butler has provided a preface to a collection of Mozolin’s Selected Works due for immediate publication by the Moscow Kutafin State Legal Academy.


Professor William Butler is the John Edward Fowler Distinguished Professor of Law at Penn State Dickinson Law; Emeritus Professor of Comparative Law, University College London; and Foreign Member, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine; and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences; Associate Member, International Academy of Comparative Law; member, American Law Institute. He recently published International Law in the Russian Legal System (Oxford University Press, 2020) and Chapter 11 in T. E. Carbonneau, W. E. Butler, and H. A. Blair, International Litigation: Cases and Materials (3d ed.; West, 2020).
