PROFESSOR BLASIE SELECTED FOR INTERNATIONAL PLAIN LANGUAGE FEDERATION’S CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE

Michael A. BlasieJanuary 2020 — Professor Michael Blasie recently was invited to join an international team of writing experts to work on issues related to “plain language” writing. He was accepted to serve on the inaugural Certification Committee of the International Plain Language Federation.

The International Plain Language Federation was established in 2007. Its current priorities include translating and promoting its standard definition of plain language, developing an international standard for plain language, and exploring options for training and certifying plain language practitioners. The Committee to which Professor Blasie has been appointed is part of the Federation’s ambitious goal of establishing an international plain language standard to improve public understanding of the law in every country. The Federation charged the Committee with developing a certification standard and process for the plain language profession. Building on his decade of litigation experience and prior publications on legal writing, Professor Blasie will work with an international team to change legal writing on a global scale.


Professor Michael Blasie brings his decade of litigation experience in trial and appellate courts to researching and teaching legal writing. His scholarship focuses on persuasive writing and the phrasing of legal standards. He has authored a seventeen-part legal writing series for practitioners, co-authored the treatise on Colorado Appellate Law and Practice, and published his scholarship in the New York University Annual Survey of American Law and the DePaul Law Review.
