PETER G. GLENN TO SERVE AS 2022 COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER
May 2, 2022 — Peter G. Glenn, Dean Emeritus, will serve as this year’s Commencement Speaker during the class of 2022’s Commencement ceremony, which takes place on Friday, May 13.
Dean Emeritus Peter G. Glenn graduated from Middlebury College with High Honors in History and earned his J.D. degree cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School where he was Articles Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. Glenn then served as law clerk to Judge Abraham L. Freedman of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
He began law practice as an associate with the multi-state law firm now known as Jones Day and, after three years of practice, began teaching law at the University of North Carolina, followed by law faculty appointments at Washington and Lee University and the University of South Carolina.
In 1983 he returned to the Jones Day firm where he practiced business litigation and served as the firm’s Cleveland, Ohio office recruiting committee chair and as training partner for the firm’s Litigation Group. During his tenure at Jones Day, Glenn also served as an adjunct professor at the law school of Case Western Reserve University.
In 1994 he was appointed as the ninth dean of the then independent Dickinson School of Law. In that role, he led our Law School to its 1997 affiliation and 2000 merger with Penn State University. During the eight years of his deanship, Glenn taught courses in Professional Responsibility, Constitutional Law, and Civil Procedure.
Following his deanship, Glenn was appointed Executive Deputy General Counsel of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of General Counsel, with responsibility for oversight of much of the litigation involving the executive departments of the Commonwealth. Following service on the Law School faculty in 2005-2006, he accepted an invitation to become General Counsel of the Reading, Pennsylvania-based law firm Stevens & Lee and served in that position until 2015.
In 2010 Glenn was appointed to the American Bar Association Law School Accreditation Committee and served on that committee until 2016. He also has served as a member of several ABA accreditation site inspection or fact-finding teams.
In 2015 Glenn was invited to both return to the Dickinson Law faculty as an adjunct professor and to serve as a part-time consultant to Stevens & Lee, with responsibility for the firm’s associate hiring and training programs. Between 2015 and his retirement in December 2020, he taught several courses at Dickinson Law, including Professional Responsibility, Transactional Writing and Drafting, and Law Practice Management, while also being heavily involved in the School’s Appellate Moot Court Program.
In the Fall of 2019, Glenn was the Civil Procedure instructor for the entire class of 2022, a graduating class he considers the best of his entire teaching career.
