LAW SCHOOL ALUMNI DIRECTOR ROBIN FULTON LANGHANS TO DEPART PENN STATE AUGUST 2
July 2024 — Dickinson Law’s long-serving director of alumni relations, continuing legal education, and special events, Robin Fulton Langhans, will depart Penn State effective August 2 to pursue the next chapter in her career as director of development and alumni relations for The American University of Paris, a U.S.-accredited private liberal arts university in Paris, France. Langhans will be working remotely to connect North American alumni to the University, and she will be on campus in Paris to host events like Alumni Weekend. As an undergraduate student, Langhans studied abroad at The American University of Paris.
Since joining Dickinson Law in 2010, Langhans has collaborated with alumni leaders and volunteers to integrate the Law School’s alumni relations program into the broader Penn State community. She was instrumental in drafting bylaws to create the Dickinson Law Alumni Society of the Penn State Alumni Association and championed several iterations of its board of directors. During her time as alumni director, numerous Dickinson Law alumni gained University recognition through the prestigious Alumni Fellows program including Hon. LeRoy S. Zimmerman ’59, Hon. D. Brooks Smith ’76, Hon. Thomas I. Vanaskie ’78, Lisa Hook ’83, Dusty Elias Kirk ’79, and H. Laddie Montague Jr. ’63. The late Emeritus Professor of Law Louis F. Del Duca was also inducted as an Honorary Alumnus of Penn State under Langhans’s tenure.
As alumni director, Langhans organized alumni engagement opportunities on campus and in key cities and regions each year. In 2019, she developed a yearlong celebration of the 185th anniversary of the Law School’s founding in 1834. In collaboration with the Dickinson Law Alumni Society, regional alumni events were held around the country culminating in the 185 Years Founders Gala and Thought Leaders Summit during which the Dickinson Law community was introduced to incoming Dean Danielle M. Conway. Langhans was also responsible for the Law School’s continuing legal education offerings, working with the Pennsylvania CLE Board to deliver programming to alumni and the wider practicing bar. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Langhans teamed up with Dickinson Law’s IIT Department to successfully petition the Pennsylvania CLE Board for distance learning provider status, which the Law School continues to maintain today. Over the years, she partnered with other Penn State units, the Public Defender Association of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association, the Cardozo Society of the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg, the Middle District Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and others to bring innovative programs to Dickinson Law.
In addition to her work at Dickinson Law, Langhans served on the Vice President of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations’ Awards Committee for three years including as captain of the division-wide awards ceremony in 2024. She was co-chair of the AALS Section on Institutional Advancement and served on the Section’s Executive Committee for several years. At the invitation of Penn State’s Provost she was a member of the AC-14 Academic Administrative Evaluation Committee chaired by Emeritus Dean Gary Gildin in the 2023-24 academic year. While at Penn State, Langhans earned a Master of Education in Higher Education.
