DICKINSON LAW WELCOMES 1L AND LL.M. STUDENTS

August 2022 — Penn State Dickinson Law welcomed members of the Class of 2025 and Master of Laws students to campus for the first full day of orientation on August 18. The day started with a Convocation ceremony that welcomed scholars to the Dickinson Law family, as well as sessions on Practicing Greatness in Law School: Thriving in Law School Student Panel; Practicing Greatness in Society: Being Inclusive and Professional about Differing Viewpoints; Practicing Greatness in Your Professional Identity: Introduction to Career Services and Professional Development; and Practicing Greatness as Future Alumni.

Bekah Saidman-Krauss, associate dean for admissions and financial aid, reports that nearly one-third of Dickinson Law’s incoming first-year class are the first in their family to attend college and over half are the first in their family to attend graduate school. Roughly a third of 1L students identify as students of color, and over 20 percent identify as members of the LGBTQ community. Saidman-Krauss also noted, “These scholars are more than just numbers. Dickinson Law’s Class of 2025 is comprised of 105 incredibly unique and accomplished individuals. They’ve earned bachelor's degrees at Dickinson College, F&M, Gettysburg College, Kenyon College, Muhlenberg College, Penn State University, Susquehanna, Villanova, Boston College, BYU, Davidson, UVA, and University of Iowa — among others. They’ve majored in African American studies, anthropology, civil engineering, economics, history, international business, Japanese, mathematics, neuroscience, psychology, physics, and religion — to name a few.”

In addition, career pursuits include an individual who served as a captain in the United States Air Force, a volunteer welfare coordinator, and president of the Black Student Union. They have worked as a Senior Statistician for the U.S. Department of Agriculture; a behavioral support therapist for folks with autism; a licensed real estate agent; and an ESL instructor. They founded a literature and debate society at their undergraduate institution. They started a business, produced a podcast, and managed a dance company. Dickinson Law is honored to welcome such a dynamic group of scholars to our Law School family and we look forward to sharing their many accomplishments in the coming years.
