DARYL LIM SPEAKS AT INTERNATIONAL TRADEMARK ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
March 2024 — Associate Dean Daryl Lim was recently invited to speak at the International Trademark Association’s conference on “The Business of Artificial Intelligence: Practical Applications in the IP Ecosystem.” The conference provided a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between artificial intelligence (AI), intellectual property rights, and brand management. As businesses embrace AI, a new imperative emerges — ensuring that AI is used responsibly. Ethical AI deployment is a complicated endeavor involving complex and often industry- or firm-specific considerations with respect to bias, transparency, and societal impact. It obliges businesses to scrutinize their existing practices and adapt their existing frameworks to novel and complex AI use cases. The panel discussed how businesses can strike a balance between innovation and ethics and how the responsible use of AI can foster trust among stakeholders at all levels. Additional information about the conference is available online.
