ASSOCIATE DEAN LAURA AX-FULTZ PRESENTED AT THE PENNSYLVANIA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE

Laura Ax-FultzOctober 2024 — Associate Dean Laura Ax-Fultz presented an interactive session on legal research at the 2024 Pennsylvania Library Association Conference held this month. The presentation focused on empowering librarians to identify key information to locate primary legal sources related to the news.

News articles may use provocative headlines or slant the news to portray a certain view regarding newly enacted laws or court opinions. Further, individuals may not understand whether those new laws or court rulings apply to them. This session helped attendees identify keywords and phrases to understand what type of primary source was being discussed and where to find those sources. Empowering legal literacy by educating librarians from every type of library is a vital component in educating our citizens and supporting our democracy.

The Pennsylvania Library Association is the state’s premier professional library organization, serving those who work in libraries and those who support libraries.
