ADI PROGRAM MANAGER TAWANDA HUNTER STALLWORTH DELIVERS ADDRESS AT GIANT COMPANY’S INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY EVENT

March 2025 — Antiracist Development Institute (ADI) Program Manager TaWanda Hunter Stallworth imparted a message of hope, unity, and action at The GIANT Company’s annual International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration, held at corporate headquarters in Carlisle on March 6.

The theme of this year’s day, which included several invited speakers, a special luncheon, and flowers and gifts for all employees in attendance, was “accelerate action.” IWD organizers urged women around the world to recognize “the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality.”

To that end, Stallworth opened by sharing memories of her great-grandmother’s activism, highlighting the vital importance of building coalition within a community. She detailed the ADI’s mission of dismantling structures that scaffold systemic racial inequality and discussed how coalition building can benefit not just women but everyone.

“The work of the Antiracist Development Institute has been anchored in the success of the coalitions that have been coming together and built around the work that we are doing,” said Stallworth. “Uniting around a cause or a matter of shared importance has created meaningful relationships and collaboration in spaces that some might find surprising.”

She urged those in attendance to appreciate their neighbors’ unique qualities while also recognizing their many similarities. “Honoring the experiences that we share in common is exactly what makes coalitions so strong and enables us to accelerate action toward common goals,” said Stallworth. “But far too often, our society encourages us to emphasize the differences between us.”

She closed on a note of optimism. “We will make our world a better place, one strengthened coalition at a time,” said Stallworth.

She then answered questions about allyship and creating antiracism resources from an engaged and enthusiastic audience before turning the stage over to GIANT president John Ruane. He closed the day by echoing Stallworth’s message, telling the audience to take everything they had heard back to their teams and “be better every day.”
