ABI HASSEN JOINS PHILOSOPHY & LEGAL THEORY COLLABORATIVE INAUGURAL WORKSHOP
August 2024 — Abi Hassen, Visiting Assistant Professor of Law at Penn State Dickinson Law, recently participated in the first ever Philosophy and Legal Theory Collaborative Workshop.
Professor Hassen’s involvement in the workshop underscores his commitment to exploring the intersection of philosophy and law, a central theme in his teaching and scholarship. The Philosophy and Legal Theory Collaborative Workshop is an exciting new gathering that brings together leading scholars to discuss critical issues in legal theory and philosophy. Featuring an international list of participants from the fields of law and philosophy, the workshop fosters a rich, interdisciplinary dialogue. Professor Hassen’s participation as both a presenter and a discussant highlight his expertise and active engagement in these scholarly conversations. Notably, the workshop included a keynote address by Professor David Boonin titled “Artificial Intelligence, Criminal Justice and Risk Assessment: The Right to an Explanation Objection to Opaque Recidivism Prediction Algorithms,” further elevating the event’s relevance to current issues in criminal law and technology. Abi’s contributions not only enhance the academic discourse on pivotal topics but also reinforce his dedication to advancing legal education and thought.

Abi Hassen is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law at Penn State Dickinson Law, where he currently teaches Professional Responsibility, Law in Emergency, and Trial Advocacy. His research examines the implications of institutional dynamics on race/racism, civil liberties, and the rule of law.
