Associate Dean Jeffrey A. Dodge presents on artificial intelligence and law school

CARLISLE, PA—On Monday, June 1, 2026, Associate Dean Jeffrey A. Dodge presented "Back to the Future: AI and the Law Student" to the CLEO Pre-Law Summer Institute Scholars. The workshop offered concrete cautions and guidance about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by law students. Dodge explored ways AI can assist law students and the pitfalls of unpermitted and unethical uses. Scholars in the program were presented with hypothetical scenarios to assess their judgment and engage with each other around AI use.

The Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Inc., (CLEO) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1968. Through CLEO’s educational programs, it works to expand access and opportunities for all aspiring students to attend and succeed in law school. CLEO serves students of all identities and backgrounds. The Pre-Law Summer Institute was hosted at Penn State Dickinson Law's University Park location in 2026. PLSI prepares students who are soon to enter law school this fall or next.

Jeffrey A. Dodge, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor of Law, and Joseph H. Goldstein Faculty Scholar at Penn State Dickinson Law, has spent nearly 20 years in legal education. Dean Dodge has broad experience overseeing law school and University-level offices of student services, international programs, admissions, academic success, career services, and more. He has taught and presented on topics in the fields of family law, education law, international human rights, and LGBTQ+ inequality. His scholarship focuses on the intersection of educational access and minoritized communities. Dean Dodge is past chair of the Association of American Law Schools Student Services, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues, and International Legal Exchange sections. He has served on the national diversity committee of the Law School Admission Council, as an American Bar Association accreditation site evaluator, and as a three-time director of the CLEO Pre-Law Summer Institute.
