Biography
Nancy Johnson has a varied legal background including experiences in the areas of fair housing, equal employment, social security disability, small business 8A certification, disaster relief, and healthcare litigation support. However, her career has predominately been in intellectual property law, as an attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office for almost 20 years. There, she worked in the Office of Petitions, gaining expertise in patent law and regulation, and patent office policy and procedure. Her most significant area of subject matter expertise was with respect to patent term adjustment determinations. Toward the end of her tenure, she had the pleasure of serving briefly in the USPTO’s Office of Public Engagement, where she engaged in outreach activities aimed at furthering participation in the innovation ecosystem. She particularly enjoyed educating youth about the patent system and counseling tech women on careers in IP.
