Biography

Mireille Rebeiz is Chair of Middle East Studies & Associate Professor at Dickinson College. She is a scholar and educator with experience in International Law, Middle East Studies, and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies. She earned two doctoral degrees: S.J.D. in International Law and Ph.D. in Francophone Studies. Dr. Rebeiz’s research is interdisciplinary; it focuses on international law and terrorism, issues of statehood, armed conflicts and State and Non-State actors, international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and gender and sexuality. She is particularly interested in the Middle East and North Africa.

Dr. Rebeiz's latest book Hezbollah in International Law examines Hezbollah’s legal status as a State or non-State actor in Lebanon and in the context of armed conflict (Israel and Syria). It also studies Hezbollah’s unlawful activities in Lebanon since 1982 and State responsibility; it is forthcoming with Edinburgh University Press in December 2025. Dr. Rebeiz’s first book Gendering Civil War. Francophone Women’s Writing in Lebanon, for which she earned the AAUW American Fellowship, was published with Edinburgh University Press (March 2022) and was nominated for the John Leonard Prize.

Dr. Rebeiz has given numerous public talks and interviews, and several of her articles have appeared in peer-reviewed national and international journals. She speaks Arabic/Levantine Dialect, French, and English.
