Biography

Lindsey Kurtz is Director of Legal English Certificate Programs and Language Specialist in the Master of Laws Program at Penn State Dickinson Law. Prior to joining Penn State Dickinson Law, she worked at Peking University School of Transnational Law as Director of the Center for Academic Legal English. In both her teaching and scholarship, Dr. Kurtz seeks to understand how concepts from linguistic theories can assist multilingual students in their study of U.S. law. In doing so, she draws from diverse linguistic and pedagogical theories, including cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics, and Vygotskian sociocultural theory. Additionally, Dr. Kurtz is interested in English for Specific Purposes, dynamic assessment, and technology-assisted language learning. She has previously taught English and lived in China, Japan, and Mexico.
