Biography

Eric Athey retired from private practice in December 2024 as a member of McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, where he practiced labor law, employment law and employee benefits law. During the course of his 33-year career, he served as co-chair of McNees’ Labor and Employment Group and chaired the firm’s Employee Benefits Group. He also served as managing partner of another firm for a period of time and completed a term as President of the Lancaster Bar Association. Prior to attending law school, Eric taught Labor Relations for several semesters at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Eric’s legal career primarily involved counseling and representing employers in a wide range of labor and employment matters, including labor negotiations and arbitrations, employment litigation and compliance assistance with a wide range of labor, employment and employee benefit laws and regulations. Eric represented private and public sector employers before state and federal courts, arbitrators and administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, National Labor Relations Board, Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Wage and Hour Division.

Eric received a B.A. degree in Economics from Franklin & Marshall College; a M.S. degree in Labor Relations from University of Massachusetts in 1988; and a J.D. degree, cum laude, from University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
