Donald Hahn is a Centre County native, born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. His father was a Penn State professor of mathematics, and his mother was an artist and homemaker. He received his B.A. at Penn State and his J.D. at Villanova.
Judge Hahn has been an attorney since 1992. He received the Pennsylvania Bar Association Pro Bono Award in 2003 and in 2013. He served on the board of the Middle District Bankruptcy Bar Association (2003-2009, 2011-2017), including a year as its president (2015-2016).
Judge Hahn also served as Mayor of State College Borough (2018-2019) and previously as a member of the Borough Council (1996-2000, 2006-2014), including two years as president (2012-2014). He served on the board of the Pennsylvania Municipal League (2009-2013), as chair of its Central District (2008-2009), and as a delegate to the Pennsylvania Association of Councils of Governments. Locally, he served on the State College Borough Redevelopment Authority, Planning Commission, Community Land Trust, and Community Development Block Grant Citizen Advisory Committee.
He was elected Magisterial District Judge in 2019. He has been active in the Pennsylvania Bar Association, serving on the Civil and Equal Rights Committee, the Minority Bar Committee, the Judicial
Administration Committee, and the Civility in the Profession Committee. He also hosted the local panel on Culturally Responsive Courts, sponsored by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts.
Judge Hahn also served on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Asian-Pacific-American Affairs (2019-2021).
