CARLISLE and UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.—In March, Professors Jonathan D’Silva and Lucy Johnston-Walsh traveled to India to visit Galgotias University School of Law. D’Silva and Johnston-Walsh each provided a lecture series on their areas of specialty.

Johnston-Walsh’s series focused on children’s rights, providing an overview of the U.S. system of juvenile court, with some comparative analysis of the Indian system. D’Silva’s lecture series focused on intellectual property (IP), comparing the practice in India and the U.S. and sharing practical insights and advice on international IP practice, commercialization and IP portfolio management, and professional responsibility and career pathways in intellectual property law.

Johnston-Walsh visited a juvenile court in Delhi and a juvenile detention home. She also participated in a panel discussion on children’s rights and a book release event on the same topic.

Lucy Johnston-Walsh is an associate professor of law and founding director of the Dickinson Law Children’s Advocacy Clinic. She is also the associate dean for experiential education. Professor Johnston-Walsh’s research, teaching, and service focus on juvenile law, specifically the legal challenges for youth involved in the foster care system. She supervises law students in the legal representation of youth involved in the dependency system, and her scholarship directly relates to systemic issues presented through the clinic cases, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of child advocacy. Her recent scholarship has been published in both medical journals and law reviews, including articles in Seton Hall Law Review, Fordham Urban Law Review and University of Pennsylvania Journal of Law and Public Affairs.

Jonathan D’Silva is an assistant clinical professor of law and is the director of the Intellectual Property Clinic at the Happy Valley LaunchBox. He helps students working at the IP Clinic gain hands-on experience working in a small law firm and learning the responsibility of having a client.
D’Silva’s experience in IP law covers a variety of areas. He founded his own intellectual property law firm called MMI Intellectual Property in Erie, PA. He is IP counsel for multinational corporations, universities, and a number of small businesses.
