UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.—Professors Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia and Lenni Benson have produced a third edition of their textbook Immigration and Nationality Law, to be published by the Carolina Academic Press in 2026. The textbook has been significantly revised from its earlier edition (with Stephen Yale-Loehr) to reflect the changing landscape of immigration law and policy in the courts and executive branch, in particular.
The textbook retains its focus on the role of agencies, appreciation for those working inside the government, and a problem-based method whereby students work through problems to generate solutions on complex and changing immigration scenarios.
Benson and Wadhia bring a third edition that has been updated significantly to capture changing immigration law and policy. The “Introduction” shows how immigration law is interrelated to many areas of practice. The text provides a strong foundation in the key constitutional, statutory, and regulatory provisions that are critical to lawyers working in the field. The text continues to have in-depth coverage from expedited removal to constitutional analysis, from nonimmigrant visas to humanitarian relief.
Professors Benson and Wadhia bring more than 60 years of immigration experience in private practice, policy, federal government, and law teaching. Both are recipients of the eminent Elmer Fried Excellence in Teaching Award by the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia is a nationally respected immigration scholar, law professor, author, and attorney. She joined Penn State Dickinson Law as a Clinical Professor of Law in 2008 and was named Samuel Weiss Faculty Scholar in 2013.
Wadhia's scholarship has focused on the role of prosecutorial discretion in immigration law and policy and the intersection of immigration, race, and national security. She is the author of two award-winning academic press books by New York University Press in addition to co-authoring an earlier edition of Immigration and Nationality Law by Carolina Academic Press.
