Professor Martin Skladany proposes adaptive AI laws in Financial Times

His article suggests that law needs to evolve in order to adequately respond to AI

CARLISLE, Pa.—Martin Skladany, Samuel Weiss Faculty Scholar and professor of law, recently published an article in the Financial Times proposing that law needs to evolve in order to adequately respond to artificial intelligence (AI) advancements.

"How to legislate for AI in an age of uncertainty" suggests that we currently pass laws that would "take effect automatically when benchmarks are met to hedge social risks and distribute benefits."


Martin Skladany is a professor of intellectual property, artificial intelligence, law and international development, law and higher education, and health law. Professor Skladany is the author of Copyright’s Arc (Cambridge University Press) and Big Copyright Versus the People: How Major Content Providers are Destroying Creativity and How to Stop Them (Cambridge University Press).
