CARLISLE, PA—Professor Katherine C. Pearson was recently quoted in a New York Times Magazine article about adults caring for parents who abused them as children.

Pearson addressed filial-responsibility law in Pennsylvania, one of fewer than two dozen states that retain such a law. She discussed her experience lecturing about the law: “And whenever I describe the law, I always see one person’s face get very frightened. And I know that they will come up and meet with me, and they will tell me a story about how their parent had been a bad parent.”
