Professor Julie Tedjeske Crane contributes two chapters to new book

CARLISLE, PA—Julie Tedjeske Crane, law librarian and professor of legal research at Penn State Dickinson Law, contributed two chapters to the recently published book Creating Healthy Library Workplaces: Five Factors That Improve Employee Engagement and Satisfaction (Bloomsbury Libraries Unlimited).

The volume brings together scholars and practitioners to examine strategies for supporting employee well-being and promoting sustainability in libraries.

Creating Healthy Library Workplaces: Five Factors That Improve Employee Engagement and Satisfaction

In her first chapter, “Slow Librarianship and Slow Productivity: Complementary Approaches to Sustainable Work,” Crane draws on the slow productivity movement to advocate for more humane and values-driven approaches to library work.

Her second chapter, “Beyond ‘Follow Your Passion’: Cultivating Meaning and Purpose in Library Work,” examines how institutions can foster meaning and purpose through thoughtful job design, clear organizational values, and supportive workplace cultures.


Julie Tedjeske Crane is a Reference Librarian and Professor of Legal Research at the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Law Library at Penn State Dickinson Law. In addition to her library-related responsibilities, Professor Crane teaches legal research in the first-year curriculum and upper-level courses.

Professor Crane has worked as an attorney for over 15 years, practicing general civil litigation. She has also been a librarian at La Roche College, the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, and Chicago-Kent School of Law.
