UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.—Professor Gopal Balachandran was interviewed on the statewide radio program The Commonwealth Beat with Laura LeBeau regarding his representation of Subramanyam “Subu” Vedam. The interview spanned two 20-minute episodes and detailed the Vedam case, the discovery of the exculpatory information, and Vedam's ultimate exoneration.
The Vedam case and Balachandran's long-term involvement in it have garnered significant national and international attention. Vedam is the longest-serving exoneree in Pennsylvania history. The case’s complex legal and social issues directly intersect with Balachandran's longstanding interests in the criminal legal system, race and the law, and courtroom advocacy. Generations of Penn State Dickinson Law students worked on the case.
