Professor Andrea J. Martin speaks at the Law and Antisemitism Conference at Cardozo School of Law
She served on the Steering Committee, presented her research, and moderated several panels
CARLISLE, Pa.—Professor Andrea J. Martin is a member of the Steering Committee for the Law and Antisemitism Conference, held March 8–9 at Cardozo Law School.
Based on her recent research, she delivered two presentations at the conference: “Advancing Jewish Civil Rights through Jewish Legal Studies,” which argues for developing Jewish Legal Studies as a new academic discipline to bolster legal protections for Jewish civil rights; and “Conditional Delegation: Civil Rights Accountability and Exclusive Representation,” which contends that changing ideological activism within American unions necessitates reexamining the National Labor Relations Act and linking exclusive representation to civil rights compliance. These papers contribute to the emerging field of Jewish Legal Studies by developing legal theories and policies that address antisemitism through the lenses of anti-discrimination and constitutional law.
The Law and Antisemitism conference brings together hundreds of top scholars from around the world for two days of rigorous, timely, and groundbreaking discussions on the legal aspects of antisemitism. The conference featured over 15 panels covering topics such as conceptual and legal approaches to defining antisemitism, international law and human rights, freedom of speech, new efforts to combat Jew-hatred, historical perspectives, comparative approaches, antisemitism online, education, and empirical research.
Professor Andrea J. Martin’s research focuses on constitutional law, anti-discrimination law, and both historical and current antisemitism. Through her work in the developing field of Jewish Legal Studies, she creates legal frameworks and promotes strategies to influence policies aimed at combating antizionism and other modern forms of Jew-hatred and protecting civil rights.
