CARLISLE, Pa.—Professor Andrea J. Martin highlighted the importance of addressing antisemitism through the emerging field of Jewish Legal Studies at the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Annual Meeting, Jewish Law Section. She shared her experiences combating antisemitism in legal and academic contexts and moderated a panel titled "Teaching and Writing About Antisemitism."

The panel featured leading experts in the field: Robert Katz, author of a seminal casebook and treatise on Antisemitism and the Law; Dr. Mark Goldfeder, CEO and director of the National Jewish Advocacy Center and author of the five-volume treatise Religious Organizations and the Law; and Anat Alon-Beck, professor of law at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, a scholar in the areas of corporate governance and responsible and sustainable business models, who has been actively involved in combating antisemitism.

Together, the panelists examined the critical importance of legal scholarship in developing frameworks to combat antisemitism and explored the intellectual, pedagogical, professional, and institutional challenges of teaching, researching, writing, and speaking about Jew-hatred—particularly within academic and legal environments amid a documented rise in antisemitism. The Jewish Law Section of AALS provides a national forum for law professors and legal scholars in varied fields. The section promotes scholarly exchange, pedagogical innovation, and interdisciplinary engagement and supports the integration of Jewish law perspectives into legal education and scholarship.

Professor Andrea J. Martin‘s research encompasses constitutional law, anti-discrimination law, and the study of historical and contemporary antisemitism. Through her scholarship in the emerging field of Jewish Law and Policy, she develops legal frameworks and advances strategies to influence legal, governmental, and institutional policies to combat antizionism and other contemporary forms of Jew-hatred and protect civil rights.
