UNIVERSITY PARK, PA—Professor Hannah Wiseman was interviewed by ABC27 for a story on rising gas prices. You can see her comments by clicking here.
Gas prices have risen due to the conflict in Iran and ongoing disputes in the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of the world's oil flows. Although U.S. companies produce a lot of domestic oil, this oil is traded in a global market, so when global supply is constrained, U.S. gas prices rise.
“Different retailers may be taking different approaches,” said Wiseman. “But there are many other factors, including the marketing strategy of an individual gas station, the payment to employees, the cost of the rent.”
Hannah Wiseman researches in the area of energy law, including oil and gas law, as well as climate, property, land use, and environmental law.
