CARLISLE, Pa.—Penn State Dickinson Law and School of International Affairs Dean and Donald J. Farage Professor of Law Danielle M. Conway co-authored an article in Bloomberg Law, "AI Legal Education Pushes Skills, Clinics, and Healthy Skepticism," with Richard E. Moberly, dean and Richard C. & Catherine S. Schmoker professor of law at University of Nebraska College of Law, and Kellye Testy, executive director and CEO of the Association of American Law Schools.
The authors discuss the evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the legal field, and ways that law schools are adapting to utilize the technology. This includes modules that show how AI tools can both help and hallucinate with writing and legal research, along with discussions on professional responsibility, and integrations of AI topics into coursework.
The article also notes the shifting effect of AI on clinical and experiential learning, challenging students to face questions of appropriate use and disclosure. Guidelines and rules for classroom use are also highlighted as a key to successful integration.
