Biography

Dr. Tony Mutchler, DVM, JD, has been a veterinarian for over seventeen years and a lawyer for over thirty years. He maintains licenses to practice veterinary medicine and law from the state of Florida, and previously was licensed as a veterinarian in Alabama. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009 after completing clinical rotations and internships at an animal shelter, zoos, and racetracks, among others. Dr. Mutchler has served as a Professional Services Veterinarian at IDEXX Laboratories since September of 2024, and in that capacity has been primarily involved in educating other veterinarians and veterinary staff. Prior to becoming associated with IDEXX, Dr. Mutchler worked at a variety of mixed-animal practices, including his own mobile veterinary service. Over the years, he has treated dogs, cats, horses, cows, small ruminants, pigs, camelids, camels, reptiles, “pocket pets,” and birds (including an emu). Prior to pursuing his dream of becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Mutchler pursued his other dream of becoming a lawyer. After graduating from the University of Florida College of Law in 1990, he practiced law at a private firm involved in civil litigation matters and then worked for various governmental entities in the areas of land use, environmental, and animal welfare, cruelty, and nuisance law. While serving as an attorney with the Martin County (FL) Attorney’s Office and the Southwest Florida Water Management District, he also handled appellate cases. Dr. Mutchler has written articles for professional publications and presented lectures to professional and educational organizations in his capacity as both a veterinarian and a lawyer.
